Prepare for a personal loan settlement conversation
A settlement discussion starts with a dated written quote and a realistic understanding of the cash available to pay it.

Ask for a breakdown
Request outstanding principal, accrued interest, settlement charges, applicable taxes and any rebates. Ask how long the quote is valid and whether interest continues to accrue before payment reaches the account. Do not assume remaining scheduled instalments equal the settlement amount.
Read your contract and local rules
Fee limits and borrower protections vary by country and product. The CashOrbits estimator assumes no legal cap: enter the applicable contractual fee and verified cap yourself. If you cannot confirm them, use the tool only for scenarios and ask the lender for clarification.
Prepare a sustainable proposal
Explain what you can pay and when, with documents the lender requests through its official channel. Ask about fee reductions or payment options without assuming a concession is available. A discounted settlement can have credit or tax implications depending on the jurisdiction.
Get the outcome in writing
Before transferring money, confirm the agreed amount, deadline, payment reference, effect on remaining debt and how closure will be recorded. Verify payment instructions independently. Keep the receipt and request closure confirmation. Never rely on a calculator as proof that an account has been settled.
